#EOFF. An American Silver covered tureen. Hallmark for Garret Eoff (1779-1845). Size: 11" across (handle to handle) and 11" tall. Weight 59 oz. Late Federal Period, c. 1820. Monogrammed in script: "From the will of Oliver Wolcott (Jr.)". (January 11,1760-June 1, 1833), He was the second United States Secretary of the Treasury: appointed by George Washington and John Adams, preceded by Alexander Hamilton; a judge of the U.S. Circuit Court for the Second Circuit and the 24th Governor of Connecticut. So what was the relationship between Oliver Wolcott and the Gracie family? William Gracie, the oldest son of Archibald Gracie (Gracie Mansion) married the daughter of Oliver Wolcott, Governor of Connecticut. She suddenly died at a party on her wedding day of a ruptured blood vessel. This wedding party was at the bride groom William Gracie's fathers house, Gracie Point. All the brides maids were still present when the bride died. Twenty years afterward William Gracie married again a very beautiful girl Cornelia Flemming descended from a noble society family. The couple had a child named Mary Fleming Gracie who married Charles Keating Tuckerman. Cornelia Gracie lived to be very old and died in Florence and is buried in the Tuckerman plot in the Allori Cemetery there. This information explains why a piece of Wolcott silver was gifted to the Tuckerman family through Wolcott's will. There are examples of Eoff's works in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Descended from the family. $7,500.00.
