The Gresham Palace

Budapest Hungary

The exterior of the palace

The front facade of the Gresham Palace as you drive off the Chain Bridge.

Naturally it goes without saying that it is unfortunate that the residents could no longer live in the Gresham, but the reality of having to spend so many millions of dollars to restore the crumbling Gresham could not offset the limited income as an apartment building.

Facade detail

The stucco facade was literally crumbling onto the street, though I suspect that there are a few bullet holes left over from some past revolution.

This figure has 'watched' so many events take place in dear old Budapest.

In a word the Gresham is MONUMENTAL !

Zsolnay Ceramics was use outside the Palace for accent architectural impact and the interior courtyard is entirely of Zsolnay Pyrogranite tiles. Only in Budapest can you walk around picking up valuable antiques ceramics at the base of buildings!
