THE ZSOLNAY STORE
Sàndor Apàti Abt
Apàti Abt Sàndor was born in 1870 and died in 1916. He studied at the National Hungarian Royal School of Applied Arts between 1885 and 1888 and then studied in Munich for a period of time. When he returned to Hungary, he studied in the workshop of Alajos Strobl. He began working at the Zsolnay factory in 1898 and continued there until 1908. His designs include some of the best of the art pottery produced at the Zsolnay Factory during his tenure. While at the factory he also taught ceramics at the Zsolnay Ceramics School. In 1909 he moved from Pecs to Budapest where he became a teacher at the Metropolitan School of Industrial Design.
In these pages we will lists the form numbers (which are usually inscribed on the base of Zsolnay pottery) that are attributed to the workmanship of Sàndor Apàti Abt. This information is provided as a public service and though we have tried to carefully compile this list, we do not take any responsibility for any typographical errors.
