From John & Rico's
The Drawing Room of Newport Antiques
Item # tex1. A fine silk embroidered Picture: Harvest theme, anonymous, probably New England, early 19th century. Embroidered and painted in silk, chenille in tones of green, gold, blue, white and crimson, with the smaller figures a woman carrying wheat on her head flanked by a small child holding wheat in her hand and a man harvesting wheat; the larger two figures depict a woman kneeling and the feet of a robed male figure. Stretched on a wooden (period) stretcher size 20" x 23"; the fabric is attached to the stretcher with tacks. The size of the fabric is 17" x 21". Condition: considerable loss to the silk in the right upper quadrant, revealing the linen backing. The silk loss is basically where there was no weaving to the design. The textile is unattached to the tacks in the upper section of the picture. This was probably one of a series of pictures popular in American in the first half of the 19th century. I would believe that this item can be restored but it would take an expert to do so. Price: $750.00.
