Historic Newport
AT RISK

23 Sherman St. A mid 19th century cottage. Appears to be unlived in. This house has been in a state of deterioration for a number of years. The vulnerable architectural elements are the gutter/roof edge lines and the porch. The rotten wood could be easily replaced or repaired, yet the important porch architectural elements continue to fall apart and off into the sidewalk.

Gutter rots with water probably backing into the porch roof.

This unattended rot will eventually lead to unnecessary replacement.

Already some of the decorative porch trim board is gone> how much more will be lost?

In the lighter boxed area: there is a tree growing out of the gutter.

Trees overgrowing this home will eventually "kill this house"

A section of the gutter is missing here which can allow water to invade the interior walls.
