From
Their Drawing Room Antiques of Newport Rhode Island
# 7042. A portrait miniature of Rear Admiral George Collier Remey (Aug. 10, 1841-Feb. 10, 1928) U.S. Navy, serving in the Civil War and the Spanish-American War. Last overseas post was in 1900: he assumed command of the Asiatic Station and for the next two years guided the ships of that station through the diplomatic and military chaos that was China. He returned to the U.S. and served for a year as the Chairman of the Lighthouse Board before retiring on August 10, 1903. There is an extensive biography on Wikipedia. Size of frame: 10.5" x 13.75". Size of miniature: 6.25" x 3". Signed but don't recognize the artist; probably American. There is a companion miniature of his wife available. POR.
