#7030. An American Silver plate cigar humidor. Marked Wilcox Plate. Circa 1875-85. Size: overall is 8.5" X 11.75" x 8" tall to the top of one of the dogs. Two compartments for cigars size: 7.75" x 4.5". Between each cigar compartments are two lidded storage boxes for sponges to humidify the cigars. Each dog sits atop a lid which opens to reveal the cigars. Each 'box' has a lock, we have the original key, but the locks are frozen and need attention. The banding at the base of the box depicts rabbits, deer, and foliage. Condition: some loss of silver plate to the top of the box lids under the dogs. Overall the plate is in nice condition. Wilcox Silver Plate Co., from Meriden, Ct. was organized in 1865 by Jedediah and Horace Wilcox, Charles Parker, Aaron Collins and Hezekiah Miller. They were one of the original companies to become part of the International Silver Co. in 1898. Price: $1,500.00.
