Sypher & Co. made the most important reproduction Colonial Revival furniture of the late 19th century and is represented in major museums and collection. "Sypher & Company emerged after 1866 as one of the first American dealers in antiques and objects d'art. There were interested in American colonial pieces and interiors, and they manufactured and sold carefully crafted reproductions; in addition they offered restoration and appraisal services, and advice on interior decorations. There main trade, however, was in furniture, silver, porcelain, and decorative items of all sorts, imported from Europe and the Orient, which were generally considered more desirable than American pieces. Fine tapestries and textiles were a specialty. Members of the firm would travel abroad and buy quantities of goods which they shipped to the United States and sold at their stores in New York, Newport and Chicago. Examples are displayed in museums such as the Metropolitan Museum, The Museum of the City of New York, The Gardner Museum, The Preservation Society of Newport and the Museum of the Art at RISD. Customers included U.S. Grant, John D. Rockerfeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and nearly every prominent New Yorker in the period from about 1880 to 1907. Size: 17" deep, 21.5" wide and 29.75" tall. Price: $1,650.00.
