# 5733. A portrait miniature depicting Louise de Savoie. Size: 2 3/8" x 3/1/2". Condition: without issue. Writing on the back: "Louise de Savoie-Painted by Hall" C. Vanderbilt." Signed "Hall" on the right edge of the miniature. "Princess Maria Teresa of Savoy-Carrignan (Marie Teresa_ (8 September 1749-3 September 1792) was a member of a cadet branch of the House of Savoy. She as married at the age of 17 to Louis Alexandre de Bourbon-Penthievre, Prince de Lamballe, the heir to the greatest fortune in France. After her marriage , which lasted a year, she went to court and became the confidante of Queen Marie Antoinette. She was killed in the massacres of September 1792 during the French Revolution." The artist: Peter Aldophe Hall (1739-1793) was a Swedish-French artist who mainly devoted himself to miniature paintings. Elected to the French Academy of Fine Arts. Hall painted an average of 70 portraits a year, of nobilities in general and people from the fashionable society. Mounted in a later silver filigree frame. Inquiries.
