# 5596. An American Aesthetic Movement wall mirror. Marked: "Derby Silver Co. 2500" Circa 1873-1880's. At first look, the decor appears to be Japanesque Aesthetic; however upon closer look the medallions on the surface are reproductions of Roman coins which would indicate Romanesque Revival in taste. Size: the frame is 10" wide and 12" tall and meant to be hung from two original brass hooks located at the top of the mirror. One would assume that the number "2500" on the back under the manufacturers name would be a form number and the there were 2499 forms proceeding this example. Material is silver and patined surface over copper; brass and applied silver plate decorations. The beveled mirror is original; the candle holders are removable. The various surfaces appear to be original. Derby Silver Co. was founded in 1873 by Edwin N. Shelton, Watson J. Miller and Thomas H. Newcomb. This is a rare example of high style design from the Derby Silver Co. Price: $1,400.00.
