# 5396. A Folkloric era form with a Secession Era Decor. Marks: "224" "0" "Zsolnay - Pecs". This simple jug with its form created in the beginning of the Zsolnay factory was revived in the early 20th century with a Wiener Werkstatte decor copying related textile and wallpaper designs by Franz von Zulow ( It was easy to discover works by Vienna artist via Internationl Exhibition and shops in Vienna and Budapest) . Colorful flowers and bare branch trees cover the surface with a black background. Believed decorated by Geza Nikelszki, born in 1899. He worked at the Zsolnay factory for 52 years until 1926 and played an important role in the establishment of the Zsolnay Museum at the Janus Pannonius Museum in Pecs Hungary. This decor was used on different forms, this is the first one we have seen on this form. Size: 6.75" tall. Condition: a top rim edge flake - in the black - about .35" across. The paint decoration is slightly raised. Production of this decor is extremely rare and few examples come on the market today. We date this piece between 1910 and 1920. Price on Request.
