Gothic Antiques from The Drawing Room of Newport

# 5238. A rare Cast Iron Tazza in the Gothic Manner. Age: between 1860-70. Size: 20" tall; the larger 'dish' is 11.5" across and the smaller 'dish' is 7" across; the base is 6.5" across. Condition: on the larger dish there is one small point broken off. This tazza may have been painted at one time; all that shows is the bare iron. Probably a dining table server for sweets. Both dishes turn, independently of the stand. No manufacturer signatures or marks. Attributed to Miller Iron Co. of Providence Rhode Island. This firm manufactured cast iron decorative objects including a series of Gothic style birdhouses. These birdhouses were pat'd dated in the year 1868. Formed in 1866 as Crowell and Miller to later become Miller and Sisson coming under control of William H. Miller. Located at 194, 196 Eddy Street in Providence, RI. A charming and rare example of "Pointed Style" American decorative Arts. Price on Request.

The red arrow points to the missin end one on the larger dish.
