# 5100. A fine and rare German Jewelry Box. Designed and manufactured by Erhard & Sohne. Circa 1910. The technique is called Intarsia. As quoted from "Modern Art of Metalwork" at the Brohan Museum in Berlin: "The Intarsia played a major role from 1904 to the 1920's; Intarsia works of wood and brass, where the technical quality consists in the durable combination of the materials through their being pressed conjointly against a roughly milled metal substrate." "Erhard was the leading company in Germany in the sector of brassware." This box is made of brass, tree health wood (erica aborea) and probably designed by Walter Klein around 1910. It is unmarked. Condition: patina scuffing; one of the four wood pad feet is missing; there is no metal loss or delamination of the wood inlay. There is no key to the lock; the inside velvet is in good condition with the exception of the top storage level: one side of the tray is frayed. Size: 7.25" tall x 11.45" wide and 8.15" deep. The decor theme are fairy tales. A strong Secession (Art Nouveau) style is evident on all sides. This is a magnificent example in a rare large size. P.O.R
