# 5057. A pair of Andirons, circa 1882. Brass with iron shanks. Consistent with designs by J.L. Mott Iron Works. Size: 20.5" tall; 7.5" wide and 25" deep. Condition: highly polished with no losses. The iron shanks appear to be period. A large egg shaped ball is centered between a pair of three dimensional stylized flowers all supported by a large arrow shaped footed plinth. The spirit of this pair of andirons is reflected in designs pictured in "A Brass Menagerie" Metalwork of the Aesthetic Movement written by Anna Tobin D'Ambrosio for an exhibition at the Munson Williams Proctor Arts Institute. Pages 58, 59, and 60 detail information about Mott Iron Works including a pair of andirons designed by Herter Brothers for the William Vanderbilt House in New York City. These andirons have been sold.
