Item # 4896. A Bronze and Ivory figure of a woman dressed in a Biedermeier style gown. The head of the figure is carved Ivory and the rest of the figure is bronze. She is standing on an original marble plinthe. Size: app. 8.45" tall. We would date this bronze between 1900 and 1915. Condition: stress lines in the ivory as pictured. No losses or repairs. This item is in the style of works by Chiparus and Preiss who used bronze and ivory in there designs; however this item was probably of Austrian origin. The Biedermeier era was re-focused in Secession designs in Vienna through bronzes and ceramics, especially by the Wienerwerkstatte. There are no signatures or marks of origin on this figure. The figure is of a young girl with hair style consistent with the 1830's-40's. Price: $1,500.00.
