The John & Rico Collection of
# 4883. A porcelain bisque figural grouping fitted out as a boudoir lamp. c. 1905-1915. Size: app. 16" tall / the white marble base is 6" x 8" and is oval in shape. Materials: bisque, marble, brass and crystals. A pair of bisque putti sit on rocks under a canopy of tightly woven crystal beading - they are gathering wood to keep a fire going at their feet; hanging from the canape is a fringe of beading and crystal pendants. The crystal 'fringe' has been restored; the roof of the canape is intact and original; the brass swags surrounding the canopy was broken in two sections and repaired and during the restoration process the original gilt finish was removed revealing a simple brass patina. The lamp elements use two small candelabra size bulbs. Minor edge flakes to the figures and the quality of the bisque is consistent with the Sevres Factory of France. This lamps is very much Newport's Gilded Age and could have graced any of the "Cottages" along Bellevue Avenue. Price: $3,000.00.
