# 4802. A 'cartoon' of a stained glass window. Titled: "Freedom Window - War Memorial Shrine" "Washington Cathedral - Washington D.C. Designed and made by Messrs. Reynolds, Francis & Rohnstock - Studio at one Washington St. Boston". Size: 11" x 21" (on board). This pen and ink rendering of the Freedom Window is presumed from the actual studio workshop of Reynolds, Francis and Rohnstock. Condition: pencil notations (numbers) beside each segment; scuffs to the surface consistent with workshop usage; original simple frame and glass. The window was begun in early 1950 and installed in 1952 in the War Memorial Chapel of the Washington Cathedral. The window represents the message of freedom and depicts some of those who dedicated their lives to the cause of freedom. Noted are Moses, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther, Paul Revere and George Washington. Pictured also are the Purple Heart and American Legion of Honor and other American high military medals. Joseph G. Reynolds was born in Wickford Rhode Island, April 9, 1886. He studied at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence Rhode Island. He was a master in his field (stained glass) and exhibited in numerous expositions in the U.S. and abroad. His works are in: Princeton Chapel, churches in Pittsburgh, Glens Falls, Mercersburg, Paris, Belleau, Winston-Salem, Litchfield, Laconia, Hudson Falls, Newport, Washington, D.C., etc.,etc. This is an attractive collectible piece of Americana.
