Item number 4614. A Single (one)Bronze statue commonly titled: Marly Horse. Signed in the bronze: COUSTOU. Size: base-18" x 8"; 23" tall. This bronze weighs just over 40 lbs. Condition: surface patina loss in areas we believe caused by rubbing; the reigns are missing which linked the horse to the male figure. The white circle denotes the male 'member' of the stallion. The age: believed to be pre 1900. From a Newport Rhode Island home. Guillaume Coustou was the original artist who created the "Marly Horse" and he lived from 1677 to 1746. I don't know the size of the original casting, but I suspect that it was much larger. This model is very well cast and as the image show with the underside the figures (horse and male) are bolted to the grassy knoll. As an addendum: Viewing The West Wing, a television production of life in the Business Offices of the President of The United States, in the Oval Office on a console table sits the identical figure as pictured above. On another console table on the other side of a doorway is a Remington Bronze. Price: $3,850.00.
