The Zsolnay Store

# 4378. A Majolica Mushroom form Garden Seat. Zsolnay factory marks incised inside the base. Form number 870: this number probably relates to the architectural book of form numbers. Age: c. 1888. Glazed Pyrogranite. 18" tall. This form was glazed with different colors. This particular garden seat has a top or cap with very realistic colorations. We have had about a dozen of these mushroom or toadstool garden seat through the years and each was different. The top is slightly tilted to let the water run off, keeping in mind that these items were meant to go outside. Condition: glaze scuffing, edge and surface flakes. Detail photos on request. Price on request.

A view from the top down looking at the cap ot the mushroom.

Two smaller mushrooms 'sprout' out of the side of the base from the 'ground'. Often times, these are broken or missing, here they are intact.

This would be the back side of the garden seat.

From left to right prices and condition: # 4378 - $7,500.00 - condition as stated above. # 4520 - $7,200.00 - condition: scuffs to the top and 2" edge repair to the base using the broken 'flake' other minor edge flakes. # 4520a. - $7,200.00 -condition: replaced small mushroom around the base and base edge restoration using new material. As with all Zsolnay Mushroom garden seats: none were ever marked with the factory seal or stamp. They are made of frost resistant pyrogranite and were meant to be used outside, that explains the condition and most have come out of a garden in either Hungary or Austria.
