# 3330. We believe that this Zsolnay figure is form number 3330. There is a round raised mark and the date of production would be 1903. Titled Anonymous. It is one of the most dramatic sculptures from the Zsolnay factory: the robed monk hides his head under a cloak hood; an open book at his side and pen in hand. The metallic Eosin Glazed clad figure sits atop a moss laden bench. Correctly lit, Anonymous presents a mystical and mysterious apparition. This figure was made in a variety of sizes. This one is: 13.5" tall x 14.5" long and 10.25" deep. The figure is a vibrant blue eosin against a mottled green 'seat'. Anonymous chronographed the history of Hungary, never signed his name to the book that he wrote and hence the name! This statue is a copy of a huge bronze sculpture erected in the City park where the Millennium Festivities took place celebrating the 1000 year anniversary of the founding of Hungary in 1900. "The first records of Hungarian literature were written in Latin by Anonymous (unknown), notar at the court of Béla III. Anonymous was learned scholar who probably studied in Paris. In his work the Gesta Ungarorum, he writes about the origin and wanderings of the Hungarian people. Names of persons and places to be written down, and here, for the first time, the Latin alphabet was used for Hungarian words. The early use of Latin and the fact that the Latin alphabet was accepted made it easier for Hungary to become a part of Western Culture." There are minor glaze losses and a small corner restoration to the edge of the 'chair'. P.O.R.

The Blue Metallic Eosin Glaze is quite uncommon

This figure came in a variety of sizes.
