THE ZSOLNAY STORE

Item number 296. A Zsolnay cachepot. Vibrant Yellow Shriveled Glaze. Incised form number 1334 which dates this item to c.1885. Size: 5.5" tall by 7.5" square. Delicate pierced decor painted with black, red and gold gilt highlights. The Shriveled Glaze was a mistake discovered after firing (a worker dropped a solution by accident into a vat of glaze without mentioning it). This glaze comes in Yellow, Pink, White and Turquoise. The form resembles a closing octapus with it four tenticles reaching in. At the least it certainly has a sea crustation spirit about it. A very unusual and exceptional form and decor from the Zsolnay factory of Pecs Hungary. Similiar glaze examples listed in "Zsolnay Ceramics: Collecting a Culture". Condition: as pictured a tiny glaze edge loss to the inside of one of the pierced edges. Price on Request.
