# 248. Luna. To quote Eva Csenkey from Zsolnay Secession Ceramics: "The two fundamental subjects of Symbolism are the woman, the key to the figure of life; and dream, the possibility of real cognition. The brilliantly inspired, simple and forceful formulation by young Sandor Abt presents the Moon, that ancient astral deity, as the sovereign of the night, the lady of dream. The light of inner life shimmers faintly on her closed eyes and entire face. Within the horns of the Moon she becomes elevated to the sublime symbol of nature. Porcelain faience. Hollow-cast form, covered by a transparent eosin glaze which is tinted on the hair with nuanced opaque eosin glaze painting scumbled glaze running. The bust surface is intensively etchant processed. Height: 27.6 cm; width: 36.5 cm; depth: 15.5 cm. Marking: in the center on the reverse 'ABT' signature." Factory form mark {raised round mark} and incised form number 5494. Form book No. 8 Drawing No. 5494 Abt Signature. Manufacturer date: 1899. The form was exhibited at the World Exhibition in Paris and the Deutsche Kunst und Dekoration, Darmstadt in 1903. Condition: excellent. P.O.R.
