So, this is the day of the Blizzard of 2005. Very windy and of course cold. About 18" so far as of noon. Drifts of about 36" in our garden. The wind is from the North which facing the building is from the left.

Korat patiently watches the sparrows as they come to the windor feeder. They are so hungary that they do not fly away when we work by the kitchen sink. January 23, 2005

The darkened area in the center is the spot where a hawk is 'feeding' on one of the sparrows. January 23, 2005.

The hawk. I don't know which type of hawp this is but I think that it lives in the fir trees next to our garden. January 23, 2005.

All the trees and bushes are covered with snow. The ice mountains in the pool are completely covered and cannot be seen now. January 23, 2005.

The Korat watches the birds: she chatters to them to no avail and they completely ignore her. January 23, 2005.

Looking South out the front door of the shop up Spring Street: not much traffic now, though the street is kept plowed (mostly onto our sidewalk. Spring Street is a major Newport artery and they keep it very well plowed in winter. January 23, 2005.

The red line is represents about 18" of snow on our sidewalk which I will have to shovel this evening when the snow and wind stop. January 23, 2005.
