# 120. A pair of important Zsolnay Candleabras. Size: 18.5" tall. Circa 1930. Designed by Geza Nikelszky. In the Byzantine Romanesque Revival Style. Material is probably Pyrogranite: they are very heavy. Each candleabra hold three over sized candles. The glazes: the background glaze is putty colored with extensize glaze crackelature; most of the raised decoration is gold/eosin with hints of green eosin; the other color is a steel blue with a glossy finish; the tips of the central candle cup is surrounded by round gold beads tipped with green eosin beads. The look of these candleabras is meant to represent something older in style than the 1930's. They are massive in appearance. Condition: as noted in the photos, one of the pair has been broken at the base of the column and repaired, the other has a green eosin tip missing above the gold eosin bead. One is marked with the factory incised mark and the numbers 2732 which is a form number from the Architectural Form Books. Identical designs are displayed in literature (page 134 of "Zsolnay" ISBN 963 368 802 7; and the pair are pictured in "Zsolnay Ceramics Collecting a Culture" with a full page photo on page 149.
